Pangea Chat careers

Pangea Chat’s mission is to actively engage students in language learning through a highly personalized experience that is as fun, social, and interactive as their digital lives outside the classroom. Specifically, our instant-messaging platform aims to provide a practical but innovative way for beginner level language learners to begin authentically communicating in the language they are learning through real conversations with real people on topics directly related to their interests and motivations for learning a language. With Pangea Chat, each learner creates their own learning content through the conversations they have.

Foreign language teachers will be able to create class spaces for their students in the app, and both students and teachers can make chat rooms. Chats can be centered on specific topics of interest or classroom activities or left for open discussion among students. Students can also initiate 1-1 chats with peers in their class or with other language students from other classes, universities, and/or countries.

Within the chats, Pangea Chat facilitates communication and learning through our unique in-app tools: the interactive translator and interactive grammar checker that provide feedback to learners and generate data for teachers to monitor learning progress. Long-term we are developing additional learning features and game elements to increase motivation and engage students in even more personalized language learning.

The current R&D of our intelligent language learning environment is funded and supported by a National Science Foundation (NSF) Phase I SBIR grant and a Commonwealth Commercialization Fund from Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC). This funding was been granted due to the intellectual merit and potential societal impact of Pangea Chat's innovation.
