Oorja finances, installs, operates and maintains efficient community-scale solar infrastructure for “productive” use at the farm level. It sells integrated clean energy services to farmers on a pay-per-use basis. These services include:
- Oonnati solar irrigation: water is sold per volume at affordable tariffs
- Oojjwal solar milling: agricultural processing made easier and cheaper at the farm level
- Oonnayan solar cooling: refrigerated space is made available to groups of farmers.

This innovative pay-per-use distribution model removes the upfront cost barrier for technology acquisition, making solar energy accessible to low-income and marginalised groups. Oorja’s services have helped close to 2,000 people across northern India to transition away from fossil fuels and increase their farm yield, income and livelihood opportunities.
