oleo.dev careers
At oleo.dev, I build and ship full-stack products end-to-end — most recently RealLife, a gamified digital wellness mobile app I built as sole engineer on the native front-end, against a production backend built by the client's team.
RealLife tackles a problem most screen-time apps get wrong: nagging people about phone usage doesn't change behavior. Instead, it turns reducing screen time and building healthy habits into a game with real stakes — users progress through an "aura" system, join social accountability circles with friends, and earn AI-generated cosmetic rewards for staying consistent. The goal is to make the healthy choice the fun one, not the guilt-driven one.
The hardest problems weren't the obvious ones. Verifying a user actually completed a real-world challenge, not just tapped a button, meant building a verification flow accepting photo, GPS, and honor-based proof, backed by LLM vision verification to confirm photos genuinely match the challenge. Detecting real "phone-down" behavior meant reading raw accelerometer data and turning it into something reliable, not gimmicky. Because the app pulls real health data, I integrated both Apple HealthKit and Android Health Connect — entirely different platform APIs — while gracefully degrading for users testing in Expo Go, where native health modules don't exist.
On the engineering side, I owned the full native stack: React Native with Expo Router, a tRPC client wired into TanStack Query for type-safe backend calls, Reanimated for the animated aura visuals, and secure on-device credential storage via the platform keychain. I took the app through EAS Build and both the TestFlight and Google Play Console submission pipelines myself, configuring App Store Connect API credentials so builds ship without manual Apple logins.
What I care about is building things that change real behavior, not just engagement metrics — with the rigor of a product that has to actually ship, pass review, and hold up for real users.
