People at NuLeaf Tech
In 2017, in the middle of California's record-breaking drought, two nature nerds who have watched too much Star Trek (as we affectionately call ourselves) started paving the way for on-site modular water treatment for all, at NASA Ames. We leaned into intersectional and personal wastewater treatment, engineered the NuTree and were quickly backed by SOSV and RebelBio. A world of siloed science with a constant focus on “thinking big” often creates sustainability solutions that are only practical for the affluent or large corporations. Yet the people who will be most affected by climate change are the poor and working classes. NuLeaf uses the agility of makers to reach across industries to bring, largely for the first time, nature-inspired solutions for everyone into the arena of water management. We don’t see divisions in our biology, engineering, or strategic skills and because of this we come together as a team that can deliver all-natural, practical products. We use our experience with building aquaponic systems and working in the wastewater field to execute concrete climate action steps for our clients of a broad spectrum of sizes.
