And while we sell access to the world’s most-brilliant minds, we believe that we are in the market of selling hope for a better tomorrow regardless of race, gender, orientation, or socioeconomic status. The problem has been created through the academic publishing market in which companies like Elsevier charge upwards of $10 million dollars per year for access to their journal platform. Recently, even prestigious institutions such as the University of California, and the University of Harvard, have publicly stated that they simply cannot afford this access. They have asked their professors not to submit to Elsevier journals, and there is a 10,000 professor signed petition against the gatekeeping and price-gouging of Elsevier. Simply put, Elsevier has outpriced and exploited its market causing a lack of access to cutting edge research for the vast majority of our country and the world, and they have no reason to stop. Until now.
