300+ million peripheral Intravenous catheters are sold in the United States each year, and 60% to 90% of hospitalized patients receive and IV during their stay. Yet, studies indicate that 35% to 50% of IV catheters have a high rate of failed and painful insertion attempts. This procedure routinely causes significant anxiety and problems for caregivers and patients because multiple attempts are often required to successfully catheterize; Or a special person or team is summoned to place the catheter into the patent. Vascular damage frequently occurs during catheter placement, especially in fragile veins found in pediatric, elderly or obese patients. Blood pathogen and needle stick exposure remains a risk to patient and caregiver. I-V Access Technology, Inc has created the next generation peripheral intravenous catheter, the Venaglide, which provides successful first attempt peripheral insertion, quickly and easily, solving the major problems caregivers and patients experience.
