People at HealthVerity
As soon as you open the doors to the HealthVerity office, you are greeted with a picture collage showing the team engaging in fun events together as well as candid photos of team members’ children (both in human and pet form). Keep walking and you come upon the hub of our office, the kitchen, where fresh coffee is brewing, team members are catching up with each other, and if you are lucky, home-baked goods, Philly soft pretzels, or Federal Donuts might be up for grabs. Yes, curiosity is important, and while we consider it during the interview process, independence takes priority when we make a decision to hire a new team member. The problems we are solving are complex, involving blockchain technology and managing large amounts of privacy-protected patient data, so our team members are relied upon to consistently research solutions, experiment with new technologies, and step forward with their ideas for the team to consider. This really comes alive during our hackathons, when team members, including participation from about 90% of the entire company, ideate on projects and self select into teams to compete with each other. All teams pitch their projects and solutions and the entire company votes for the most creative and highest impact winners. On Friday afternoons, our engineers host a weekly demo where each team showcases what they have worked on, learned, or tinkered with. Anyone from the team is given the chance to share their screen on the video conference and walk through a problem, a new library, or a new feature. It fosters personal growth and cross-team collaboration in a professional environment. Twice a month in our main conference room we gather with our lunch and attend our internal tech talks, which are led by team members with subject matter expertise on topics such as Blockchain in Healthcare, Kafka, Python, Spark, Airflow, and even equity.
