We were heavily influenced by Sir Ken Robinson's book, The Element (youtube.com/watch?v=03v_UScdLQY) We've started by tackling the beauty services and cosmetics market. In Australia its worth over $1.6BN and globally its close to $100BN. Despite the market size, most of the people that work in the space cannot make a living. Over 70% are freelancers and their income is highly variable. At FLAYR we're helping talented and passionate stylists make a living. Some of our stylists are earning in excess of $1,500 a week. Our approach to tech has always been small iterations rather than 1 big step. We like putting out a prototype and generating revenue from it before we commit to a build. After all our first $1k of revenue was done off a single web page and WhatsApp. So you'll find on FLAYR you're usually building things for which there's a proven need from either the customers or the stylists. Fundamentally at its core we solve 3 problems. Curation, trust and payments. If you like owning the complete platform and like seeing how even the smallest change you make can dramatically change someone else's life then you'll have a lot of fun at FLAYR. Our approach to building FLAYR has been to engage continuously with both customers and stylists and do lots of little steps based on learnings. We bootstrapped the business to hit $1mn annualised revenue run rate within just 10 months - and this is despite having competitors who have raised in excess of $3mn in funding.
