Jake and Avi began thinking about food production and the future of food back in 2016. Two stats stood out; there would be 2bn more people to feed by 2050, and production yields are falling at a rate of 4% a decade. With this information they began exploring ways of reducing inefficiencies in the global food supply chain. What became apparent was that the global supply network is extremely complex, with fungible and nonfungible goods changing hands many times before getting to customers. Therefore, to force change they chose to start with the consumer. By influencing consumer choice and shopping habits, they could cause supermarkets and other suppliers to shift their behaviours to more sustainable and efficient practices.
