We develop Fast 3D semiconductor sensor on a chip, applicable to automotive driving safety to
prevent collisions in city traffic. We have integrated this into single integrated circuits, demonstrated
"flash" 3D imaging as simple as cameras and leveraging similar low cost CMOS stacked image
sensors and VCSEL laser manufacturing. This allows sub-50$ LiDARs with several units per
vehicles and even bicycles. The superiority in terms of low reaction time and reduce false detection
offers a path to widespread city traffic safety systems, in particular for pedestrian / cyclists
protection. Reducing false detection in city traffic remains a major challenge for automotive ADAS safety systems. Test for protection of vulnerable users are reported ineffective in 60% of cases (AAA 2019) . There are still 200 thousand annual collisions per year severely injuring or killing pedestrians and cyclists in city environments at a cost exceeding 1% of GDP. Our innovation could cost-effectively equip entry-level vehicles by 2030. This lack of road safety also hinders sustainable transport modes, for example 120 million cyclists in the EU report that this is the major obstacle preventing cycling (EU 2020).
