The primary approach for achieving this has been through designing smart combinations (‘stacks’) of the most well researched & efficacious (‘essential’) dietary ingredients to help feed and nurture the gut. The supplement industry has long been mired by quality problems and consumer distrust. From low efficacy ingredients to unnecessary & potentially harmful fillers, consumers have experienced a poor deal. This has been felt particularly in the world of gut health where probiotics are often cheaply formulated, enzymes are predominantly weakly dosed and microbiome-supporting supplements such as prebiotics are ironically mostly made with hard-to-tolerate ingredients such as high FODMAP fibers. In addition, digestive health supplements have been frequently found to contain major allergens and other sources of intolerance such as gluten, milk and soy - often the very thing consumers are trying to avoid. Even more concerning has been the lack of focus by supplement companies on opting for ingredients backed by clinical studies. Equally frustrating, there has been little attention paid to how products work together, with most companies simply opting to release an endless and fragmented line of products, leaving consumers more confused than ever before.
