Elfina is a mental health platform in India, and we are roughly 10% of the way into what we think this needs to become.

So far, we have built a matching engine that profiles clients across 40+ variables and practitioners across 200+, pairing them on fit rather than on ratings — because a therapist who was life-changing for your friend can be entirely wrong for you. Around that, we have digitised the parts of the journey that decide whether therapy actually works: goal setting, structured check-ins, session notes and progress tracking. It has taken us to about 1,000 clients, 6,000 sessions and 45 practitioners, entirely organic. But it is a first version.

Along the way, a few things have become clear. People don't leave therapy because therapy doesn't work; they leave because the first match was wrong, and roughly 80% of them never come back. The industry treats this as a discovery problem — here are 100 therapists, pick one — when the client isn't equipped to choose. Measurement-based care, standard practice internationally, is almost absent here, and that isn't something training fixes. Product is.

The remaining 90% is what we are here to build. An AI copilot for practitioners — session insights, drafted notes, progress signals, risk flags — so the conversation in the room stays human while everything around it gets sharper. A triage layer that engages people before they've decided they want therapy at all, and helps them choose between therapy, psychiatry, coaching or self-help, rather than assuming therapy is the answer to everything. A context layer, so that someone moving between those services carries their history with them; today a psychiatrist and a psychologist treating the same person have no idea what the other is doing. And underneath all of it, a data engine that learns what works, for whom, and turns matching from an informed guess into a prediction.
