Literary magazine of Mason Ewing Corporation (MEC), based in Los Angeles, CA
Critica Books, A Sharp Eye.

Critica Books is an American literary magazine created by Mason Ewing Corporation as part of its Press Division. The first issue is scheduled for publication in October 2026.

Inspired by the Latin word critica, evoking analysis, reflection, and thoughtful insight, Critica Books draws on the spirit of dialectic valued by the orators and readers of ancient Rome: the art of logical discussion used to examine the truth of an idea. In that tradition, from Aristotle and Plato to Aesop and Phaedrus, reading was one of the best ways to convey values and attain wisdom.

Both traditional and modern, Critica Books specializes in literary criticism across every form of storytelling: novels, biographies, poetry, essays, children's literature, graphic novels, and academic works. Our team of literature enthusiasts rediscovers forgotten masterpieces, offers fresh perspectives on modern bestsellers, and highlights authors who deserve wider recognition, with a special focus on African writers whose voices are often overlooked by traditional publishing.

For founder Mason Ewing, reading was a refuge and a way to dream as a child. He hopes Critica Books will help young readers develop critical thinking and a lasting passion for books.

In the years ahead, Critica Books aims to bring together a global community of journalists and critics, launch podcasts that enrich its reviews, and become a leading reference among literary magazines.

To read is to travel. To discover is to grow. To write is to leave a legacy.
