Carbone Medical careers
Carbone Medical is creating a new plastic material for orthopedic implants. The current, dominant orthopedic implant material is a titanium alloy; used because it is lightweight, extremely stiff, and exhibits an acceptable fatigue life. The problem with titanium for orthopedics, however, is that it is expensive and its stiffness is dramatically higher than that of bone leading to long-term wearing. Additionally, titanium exhibits a very strong artifact when imaged post procedurally, hindering medical visualization.
