At Breakthrough, our mission is to put patients at the centre of their care and research, beginning with multiple sclerosis. People living with MS struggle with cognitive issues, including memory problems. Especially for those that are newly diagnosed, experiencing memory problems while coming to terms with a life changing diagnosis and experiencing new symptoms coming and going can be overwhelming. When patients visit their care teams, they get asked, “How have you been in the last 6 months?” which is extremely difficult to answer. However, it’s in this 6 month period between visits that they really experience their disease.

Our first product, Emilyn (an anagram of 'Myelin'), helps people living with MS to track their symptoms and identify triggers, communicate better with their care teams to receive better care, and contribute to research to accelerate new treatments. Emilyn is the #1 ranked app for multiple sclerosis on Google Play, and within 12 months has grown to support over 30,000 MS patients globally. Emilyn averages 4.7 out of 5 star ratings after 700+ public reviews.

We are a diverse, multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in technology, data science, design, patient-focused communications and clinical research. Breakthrough is based in the heart of Berlin, Germany, while all team members can work flexibly and remotely.
