Traditional social media is fraught with problems. It's hurting our mental health and ability to concentrate, especially our children's. It's polarizing and radicalizing people across political, racial, and other idealogical lines. This mainly boils down to the fact that most social media is based upon the perverse incentive of keeping eyes attached the app for as long as possible. Avail is a new type of social media app which has the goal of connecting people OUTSIDE of the the app as quickly as possible. Avail is an app that makes it easy for folks to connect with friends, acquaintances, coworkers, and neighbors while avoiding the pitfalls associated with group texts and traditional social media. Loneliness and lack of team cohesion are growing problem in today's world, especially since the COVID pandemic. Avail provides a low-stakes way to let others know you're available for an interaction, whatever it may be.
