Asteroid is a company designed to maximize creative freedom. We follow the DRI model, where the specific piece you code, design or research is entirely owned by you. It's a good place to work for independent-minded people who have "out-there" ideas that may not survive the internal debates & peer critique at other software companies. Many of the people who work at Asteroid currently are working on problems they've thought about for years and have always wanted to put into practice. It's a great place to spend a few years building the masterpiece you've always wanted to make, although sometimes there are crunch periods where we need to work on more boring tasks to get the product completed. Although we are an engineering organization, many of us have a creative and artistic streak as well. We're a motley crew of people from varied backgrounds, many of whom did not get into tech until later in life. Most day-to-day work is a blend of independent engineering and research, with weekly meetings to co-ordinate how the pieces fit together. We aim to produce work that is radically innovative and nobody else is doing.
