Arbutus Medical’s purpose is to develop a portfolio of frugal innovations that save costs for hospitals and improve access to orthopaedic surgery for 5 million patients by 2030.

The company's flagship product is a novel orthopaedic power tool system (the DrillCover platform) that costs 30x less than competitors.

Arbutus launched its DrillCover in late 2016, focused on low-income countries for 2 years, then pivoted and validated fit in veterinary medicine (62% YoY growth), military field medicine (sales to US and Canadian militaries), and US Trauma Centers. Arbutus has enabled 58,000 surgeries to date.
