Increasing amounts of unstructured information is available, but is scattered across different storages and folders, and traditional tools and models have growing management costs (time, money, expertise). Ambertree is designed to reduce (knowledge) management costs, and support innovation and the discovery of new insights.

Traditionally, a taxonomy is defined, and documents are classified by relevant concept. But static classification cannot cope with a dynamic environment, and information management costs increase. Ambertree offers an alternative based on three principles:
1. Knowledge, Not Files -- disconnect knowledge from their medium to escape the administrative trap.
2. Everything Relates -- knowledge consists of many different, interrelated concepts, that grant meaning and context to each other.
3. Knowledge Is Organic -- knowledge changes and grows as new insights raise new questions.
