Alto is on a mission to be the world’s most patient-centric pharmacy. Its founders left Facebook in 2015 to apply their engineering experience to a more meaningful problem. They bought a brick and mortar pharmacy and started rebuilding it from the ground up—free delivery, an easy-to-use mobile app, internal pharmacy tools, and a platform to coordinate with physicians and insurance. Alto has served over 50,000 patients in the Bay Area and Southern California and saved patients over $10 million in medication costs.
Alto has the best problem a startup can have: Hospitals, doctors, and clinics are all waiting in line to work with them. But its team is faced with an ongoing need to grow quickly, scale operations, and bring on bright engineering talent to support both.
By early 2019, Alto’s tech team was 15 engineers. Leadership had hired their first head of talent, and they started revising their recruiting strategy, enhancing their interview process, and setting even more ambitious hiring goals—like doubling its engineering team by end of year.
