Backend Data / API Engineer (Java / MySQL)

The Company & The Position

CarePredict is a Series A startup company poised to grow rapidly in the elder care health monitoring and prediction space.

CarePredict solves a significant challenge for senior care – identifying actionable precursors to declines in health using machine learning and a wearable device designed for seniors.

Our unique sensor technology and data analysis can detect changes in individual behavior patterns that point to declining health status. Proactive alerts and daily reports enable timely intervention by family and caregivers.

We are looking for a talented Backend Engineer to work with our CTO to design and develop our back end data processing system and REST APIs for structured data access and 3rd party integrations.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor’s degree in EECS or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of experience in back end development with multi-threaded Java applications.
• Experience developing REST APIs and Websockets.
• Experience optimizing relational database schemas/queries for efficient storage and retrieval.
• Strong ability to design and develop efficient data processing algorithms.
• Experience with push notification systems such as Firebase.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Experience working with AWS for deployment/maintenance/monitoring of managed systems.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the company CTO to develop efficient data processing and analysis systems in Java.
• Work with the Data Science team to design and deploy AI/Machine Learning algorithms with production efficiency.
• Extend functionality of existing back-end applications and alerting systems in Java.
• Utilize creativity and analytical skills to solve complex problems in an efficient manner.
• Exhibit superb interpersonal skills to work with distributed teams with diverse backgrounds.

Compensation, Reporting, Travel

• Annual base salary starting at $70-90K (based on experience) + equity
• Medical and Dental Benefits; generous PTO policy
• Report to Chief Technology Officer
• Travel will be minimal – Occasionally visit other US based teams or attend conferences
• Based in Fort Lauderdale, FL
