Teachers are responsible for handling any and all questions that come up. This includes pair programming and debugging issues with students, which in most cases is more valuable for the students than giving them an answer. Also, code reviewing to help students refactor their code and giving instruction (“lecture”) every morning at 9am for an hour to two and occasionally an hour afternoon Breakout Session. The Full Time instructor will be teaching, mentoring and managing- constantly engaging with teachers and students to improve the quality, consistency and content of the program. You’ll have your hand on the pulse about what’s being covered on any given day and how students are doing.
As a Full Time Instructor, you would further be responsible for conducting technical interviews with students, overseeing prep work, assisting with project planning and ideation, proctoring tests, identifying struggling and successful students, and making student decisions along with the General Manager and Education Manager. You will also be able to work on the following:
When you'll be doing it:
- We offer a schedule and a consistent time commitment that works around your current job/ freelancing gigs/ side projects/ startup. (We want you to keep coding and contributing to community!). Weekly hours can range from 5-30 hours between 9am - 6pm.
Technical Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of professional experience in web development, specifically in JavaScript
- Preference for open source web languages and tools.
- We really like Javascript and Ruby, but are eager to chat if you're experienced with the following frameworks: Python, Java, Scala, Go
- We also really like jQuery, Rails, React, NodeJS + (Express or Koa) but many of our mentors also have other backgrounds such as Django, MeteorJS, Elixir + Phoenix, Scala, AngularJS, Ember
- Strong knowledge of *nix operating systems
- Have strong sense of open source development workflows using tools such as Github
Nice to Have:
- Teaching Experience
- Public speaking experience (giving talks at meetups, conferences, etc.)
- Experience with or strong understanding of how to create scalable web applications, not just startup MVPs
