About the job
About Aegis
Aegis builds computer vision for racquet sports. Our platform, Aegis Vision, officiates and analyzes play in real time: automated line calls, live scoring, and analytics, with replay and broadcast-quality output on top.
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the US, and facilities have no good answer for disputed calls, officiating cost, or the content players want after a match. We sell to facilities, the system is deployed and in use today, and our install calendar is filling up faster than our install team can grow.
Every system we ship is cameras, compute, and a network inside a building we did not design. Getting it from boxes on a loading dock to a facility calling its own games is the job this role owns.
The role
You own each facility from install day until the system is live and trusted. The install team mounts the cameras and runs the cable; you make the system work in that building. That means bringing the network, cameras, and compute online, calibrating and tuning for the specific environment, validating the system against real play, and handing a working facility to customer success.
Most of the work is remote. You will be on-site for first-of-a-kind installs, large multi-court jobs, and anything that cannot be fixed over a remote session. Between installs, you are the technical escalation point for live facilities: you diagnose, fix what is environmental, and hand the vision team a clean reproduction of anything that is not.
You report to the head of install and work daily with the vision and platform engineers, the hardware lead, and customer success. [We are hiring more than one person for this role.]
What you'll do
• Pre-install prep. Turn site-survey data (court dimensions, ceiling height, mounting points, lighting, network) into a deployment plan: camera placement and lens selection from our standards, network layout, compute configuration, and a kit list, so install day has no surprises.
• Bring-up. Get the network, PoE cameras, and GPU compute talking: switch and VLAN config, camera addressing and settings, stream health, time sync, and the software stack running on the facility machine.
• Calibration and environment tuning. Run court and camera calibration, then tune for the building: exposure and shutter against the actual lighting, handling glare, shadows, and skylights, and adjusting for mount heights and angles that are never quite what the drawing said.
• Validation. Put the system through real play before it goes live: confirm tracking and calls meet our accuracy bar on that court, catch the edge cases that building creates, and sign off the facility through its post-install learning period.
• Remote operations. Monitor live facilities, respond to issues, push configuration changes and updates remotely, and get a court back online fast when something breaks.
• Triage and escalation. Separate environmental problems (a lens, a cable, a lighting change, a moved camera) from software problems. For the latter, capture footage, logs, and a reproduction, and hand the vision team a report they can act on without a second call.
• Customer-facing support. Work directly with facility managers and staff: set expectations, walk them through the system, and be the calm technical voice when a call goes wrong on court three on a Saturday.
• Make the next install easier. Write the runbooks, checklists, and diagnostic scripts you wish you had on the last one. Feed hardware and process lessons back to the hardware and install leads so the standard kit keeps improving.
What we're looking for
• 3+ years deploying or supporting technical systems in the field: hardware plus software, in customer buildings, where you were the one who had to make it work.
• Comfortable from the command line: services, logs, storage, drivers, and keeping a GPU workstation healthy.
• Solid networking: IP addressing, VLANs, PoE switches, managed-switch configuration, and diagnosing a bad cable run or a flaky link without guessing.
• Hands-on with IP cameras or machine vision: addressing, stream configuration, exposure and shutter, lens basics, and what a clean image looks like versus a problem.
• Scripting in Python or bash to automate checks, pull logs, and stop doing the same thing by hand twice.
• A debugging method. You isolate variables, change one thing at a time, and can explain what you ruled out and why.
• Clear written communication. Your bug reports are reproducible and your facility updates are readable by a non-technical manager.
• Composed in front of customers, and willing to travel for installs on short notice when a job needs you there.
Nice to have
• Monocular and/or multi-camera calibration, or any computer vision system you have deployed and tuned in the real world.
• AV or broadcast installs: NDI, PTZ cameras, video over IP, displays and signage.
• Low-voltage or structured cabling experience, including cable certification and testing.
• Field service for robotics, security cameras, industrial automation, or similar hardware-plus-software products.
• Remote fleet management: monitoring, remote access, and pushing updates to machines you cannot touch.
• Experience in sports facilities, clubs, or venue operations.
• You play pickleball or tennis, or at least know what a kitchen is.
• Early-stage startup experience.
Why Aegis
• You will see your work running. Every facility you bring up is a room full of players using something you made work.
• The problem is varied. No two buildings are the same, and you will be solving across network, optics, software, and people, often in the same day.
• You will shape how we deploy. We are early enough that your runbooks, tooling, and kit decisions become the standard as we scale to many more courts.
• Direct access to the engineers who build the system and the founders who run the company.
