Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and improve web-based software for visualizing coastal ocean forecasts and checking their quality.
- Design clear, user-friendly interfaces that meet the needs of forecast model developers and the people who use the forecasts.
- Build and extend an interactive map viewer for comparing ocean forecasts with satellite and in-situ observations.
- Develop tools for routine quality checks on forecast products and observations, using spatial and time-series methods.
- Support and improve the automated cloud processes that turn model and satellite data into map layers.
- Test, document and support the software you build.
Required Qualifications
- Education: a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, oceanography, information technology, or a closely related field. A Bachelor's degree may be replaced by 4 to 5 years of relevant experience in addition to the minimum below.
- Experience: at least 4 years building or supporting cloud-based systems and processes, following sound IT practices.
Skills:
Experience with ArcGIS, such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online: publishing, sharing and managing map layers.
Strong Python.
Experience with MATLAB or Fortran.
JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
Linux and Git.
Good communication and teamwork.
Desired Skills
- ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, or the ArcGIS API for Python.
- Sharing data publicly from the cloud, for example AWS S3 and CloudFront, or ArcGIS Online.
- Gridded scientific data such as NetCDF (for example with xarray), or satellite products.
- Scheduled jobs and automation on Linux servers.
- A background in, or interest in, oceanography or meteorology.
Salary: $105000 - $110000 per year
