About Pixels On Target

Pixels On Target is a non-traditional defense contractor building technology for customers in MIL/GOV/LE. We move fast like a commercial team, while meeting the security and compliance expectations that come with supporting our customers.

ROLE PURPOSE

Pixels on Target is hiring a Software Test Engineer to plan and develop testing that verifies our thermal optics and mobile software is reliable, safe and built to company and customer standards. You'll catch defects before release, document objective evidence of conformance, and feed risk and nonconformance data into our CI/CD pipeline — making sure every release meets defined performance and reliability requirements for demanding defense environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES

Responsibilities

  • Write test plans, cases and procedures from software requirements; run functional, regression, integration and system tests on embedded and application software.
  • Build and maintain automated tests where they add coverage or save effort.
  • Take part in risk analyses (e.g., FMEA) for new and existing products and verify that mitigations work.
  • Log, track and verify resolution of software defects; work with developers to find root causes and confirm fixes.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, tests and results so every release has objective evidence of conformance.
  • Follow and help improve QA processes, checklists and work instructions.
  • Review existing software products and processes and recommend practical improvements to quality and reliability.
  • Work with engineering, production and customer-facing teams so customer requirements are understood and met.
  • Keep accurate, controlled QA records.

Authorities

  • Hold or reject a software build that fails defined acceptance criteria and escalate to the Quality Lead.
  • Open nonconformance reports and request corrective action (CAPA).
  • Request clarification or rework of unclear or untestable requirements before testing begins.

COMPETENCY & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years in embedded software or software testing.
  • Test planning and case design; defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira); requirements traceability; software test and test automation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong organization, and the ability to work well under pressure across many tasks.

Preferred Skills

  • Medical device (IEC 62304 / ISO 13485) or military/defense software experience.
  • Embedded or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100.
  • Comfort in a startup environment and wearing multiple hats.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements below are essential functions of the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform them.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • On-site in office and engineering lab environments, including handling thermal optics test hardware.
  • Extended desk/computer work and close visual work on screens, displays and small components.
  • Close visual work on screens, displays and small components.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs; occasional exposure to lab noise and controlled-temperature testing; some outdoor work.
  • Work extended hours when needed.

Eligibility

Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder) due to ITAR/export control requirements.
