About the job

Position Summary

Bottle Rocket helps clients plan, build, and improve digital products, leading with defined, outcome-oriented offerings. The Business Development Representative (BDR) is the engine at the top of the sales funnel and a key driver of the company’s growth. This role owns outbound prospecting, turning a strong volume of leads into calls, calls into meetings, and meetings into new clients.

The ideal BDR is driven, tenacious, and a great active listener. They understand the front-end digital experience and the back-end that enables it. They can distill the needs behind a prospect’s business challenges, connect them to the right Bottle Rocket solution, and hand a well-qualified opportunity to the Business Development Executive team.

Essential Functions

  • Drive a high volume of outbound activity (calls, emails, LinkedIn outreach, and multi-touch cadences) to create a consistent flow of new leads
  • Convert leads into live conversations, and conversations into qualified first meetings booked for the Business Development Executive team
  • Own and consistently hit weekly and monthly targets for activity, conversations, meetings booked, and pipeline generated
  • Lead outreach with Bottle Rocket’s productized offerings, positioning each around the business problem it solves rather than a list of services
  • Spot buying signals in research and discovery calls, and connect them to the right Bottle Rocket services:

Strategy & Research (Experience Strategy, Research & Insights): unclear priorities, fragmented experiences, a new idea to validate

Design & Build (Design & Development, Experience Optimization): aging or low-rated apps, redesigns, falling engagement or conversion

Enterprise Engineering (Technical Modernization, Cloud Enablement, AI & Data, Application Engineering): legacy platforms, cloud migration, AI pilots, integration gaps

  • Research and build targeted account and contact lists in priority industries (Healthcare, Gaming, Hospitality, Financial Services, and QSR) with Business Development leadership
  • Qualify prospects on pain points, fit, budget, decision-making authority, and timeline, and hand off to Business Development Executives with clear notes and context
  • Partner with Marketing on go-to-market (GTM) campaigns for each offering, and share feedback on messaging, objections, and what is resonating in market
  • Prepare meeting agendas, follow-up emails, and other prospect communications
  • Keep activity, lead, and opportunity data accurate and current in the CRM
  • Track and report on funnel metrics: activity → conversations → meetings → opportunities → new clients
  • Work closely with Business Development, Marketing, and Product Strategy to align on GTM goals, KPIs, and metrics

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stay current on trends in digital products, AI, cloud, and tech modernization, and on the business priorities of target industries
  • Learn Bottle Rocket’s offerings, case studies, and delivery model well enough to speak credibly with prospects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, or a related field
  • 2–3 years of experience (post-college) in an outbound sales role, such as SDR or BDR, selling Technology or Consulting Services, SaaS, software, or similar technology products or services
  • Related backgrounds are welcome, such as technology-enabled services, digital agencies, or IT consulting
  • Proven, measurable record of meeting or exceeding activity, meeting, and pipeline targets

Key Competencies

  • Driven and tenacious: persistent follow-up, energized by high outbound volume, and quick to bounce back from a “no”
  • Great active listener: asks sharp questions, listens more than talks, and picks up on what a prospect isn’t saying
  • Technical curiosity: recognizes buying signals across Technical Modernization, AI & Data, Application Engineering, and Cloud Enablement, and can discuss them credibly at a business level (an engineering background is not required)
  • Problem-first, consultative approach that leads with outcomes rather than feature lists
  • Competitive, goal-oriented, and metrics-driven; thrives on clear targets and a visible scoreboard
  • Strong written communication, with the ability to write concise, compelling, personalized outreach
  • Confident and professional communicating with Director, VP, and C-level executives
  • Highly organized; keeps high activity volume and multiple cadences on track
  • Coachable, with a growth mindset and the ambition to step up into a Business Development Executive role
  • Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a fast-paced, collaborative team
  • Experienced using Microsoft Excel and Apple Keynote (preferred) or Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Regular attendance at work is required for successful performance

Preferred Skills

  • Experienced with CRM software; Salesforce preferred
  • Experience with sales engagement tools; Salesloft preferred
  • Experience with prospecting tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator or ZoomInfo
  • Experience with video conferencing (Zoom or Teams) and call recording tools; Gong preferred
  • Uses AI tools to research accounts and personalize outreach
  • Exposure to software development, cloud, or data concepts through a prior role, coursework, or personal projects
  • Experience selling into Healthcare, Gaming, Hospitality, Financial Services, or QSR
  • Previous experience in an entrepreneurial, small-company environment
