About the job
Forward Deployed Engineer
Remote
Forward Deployed Engineer who can sit in a design session with clinicians, operations staff, and IT leads at a federal health agency, understand what workflows can be improved, and put a working prototype in front of them before the next meeting. You’re the person who looks at an imperfect, long-standing process and can not only identify better ways to improve it, but you also test your ideas alongside the people who do the actual work. The role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). If you’re good at decomposing interconnected systems to find where the work really breaks down, and you’re interested in leveraging AI design tools in a federal health setting, this role was built for you.
JOB SUMMARY
As Solutions Architect, you are the technical lead embedded with our federal health client. You will turn design decisions into working solutions by working side-by-side with federal health employees to understand requirements, build prototypes users can click through, and collaborate with integration partners for final product delivery. You bring enough business-architecture discipline to understand why a workflow works the way it does and enough technical depth to deliver automated solutions. You will work alongside other Solutions Architects, Business Analysts, and our integration partners, but you’re the person who decides whether a design can actually be built.
Key Responsibilities
- Embed within the agency’s clinical, operational, and IT teams: sit in design sessions, learn the workflow and its constraints, and propose a technical approach on the spot.
- Turn validated future-state designs into working prototypes, sandbox configurations, and AI-enabled workflows.
- Shape how LLM-based agents and AI-enabled workflow logic are used in each workflow, with enough familiarity with prompt and context engineering, tool use, orchestration, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints to guide the build and judge whether it fits clinical reality.
- Work with integration partners to connect the automation platform to the agency’s source systems: define the APIs, data mappings, and transformations they build against (JSON, and HL7/FHIR where it applies), and confirm the result works as designed.
- Map the current-state system landscape well enough to design against it: interfaces, data flows, where the data really lives, and which constraints are technical versus policy.
- Tie every automation to a baseline measurement. “Instrument first, then automate” is the operating rule on this team.
- Demo working functionality to clinical users and program leadership, collect feedback, and iterate in real time.
- Keep a reusable playbook of patterns, configurations, and components so each workflow deploys faster than the last.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in engineering, solutions architecture, technical consulting, or IT consulting, including at least two years in a client-facing role where you took a design from whiteboard to working solution.
- Strong technical fluency with APIs, JSON, data mapping, and SQL: enough to specify an integration precisely and work side by side with the integration partners who build it.
- Working familiarity with LLMs and AI platforms (Claude, Gemini, etc.), including prompt and context engineering and agentic workflows, enough to design with them and evaluate what gets built.
- Daily, practical use of AI tools such as Claude Code, Claude Design, OpenAI Codex, etc. to prototype, analyze, and build. You can show us how they changed the way you work.
- Experience working in a cloud environment (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Enough business-process and architecture fluency to map a workflow, question a requirement, and explain a trade-off to a clinician or an executive without jargon.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust background investigation; U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare or health-IT experience, such as EHR integration or modernizing clinical and operational workflows; familiarity with HL7 v2 and FHIR.
- Federal or federal-health delivery experience, including building inside agency security and ATO constraints.
- Experience with low-code or workflow-automation platforms as a builder.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and PHI handling in AI systems.
- Working knowledge of Python or another scripting language for quick analysis and prototyping, whether you write it yourself or direct an AI coding tool to write it.
- Exposure to a modern data stack (Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Power BI, or equivalent).
