About the job

We are seeking an on-site IT Infrastructure Project Manager to own the technology build-out of a new facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming. You will be the client's IT point of contact on the jobsite, working daily with the General Contractor (GC), electrical and low-voltage subcontractors, and design engineers.

Your job is to make sure low-voltage systems, power, structured cabling, data communications, and network infrastructure are installed as designed, on schedule, and ready for IT turn-up at occupancy. You will bridge construction and IT — reading drawings, walking the site, resolving conflicts early, and driving the project through testing, acceptance, and handoff.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Coordination

  • Serve as the IT owner's representative on site, attending GC/OAC meetings and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Coordinate with the GC, electrical contractor, and low-voltage contractor to sequence IT work with the overall construction schedule.
  • Conduct regular site walks to verify installation progress against design drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts (pathways, penetrations, rack placement, power locations) before they affect schedule or cost.

Low Voltage, Power & Cabling Oversight

  • Verify structured cabling (Cat6/6A copper, single-mode and multimode fiber) is installed per TIA-568/569/606/607 standards and project specs.
  • Oversee build-out of MDF/IDF rooms, including racks, cable tray, ladder rack, grounding and bonding, HVAC, and dedicated circuits.
  • Confirm power requirements for IT spaces: UPS, PDUs, generator-backed circuits, and receptacle locations.
  • Coordinate related low-voltage systems as applicable: Wi-Fi AP locations, access control, CCTV/security cameras, AV, paging, DAS, and building automation network connections.
  • Coordinate carrier/ISP service entrance, demarc location, and circuit delivery dates.

Design, Documentation & Change Management

  • Review IT/low-voltage drawings, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; provide responses or route to engineers.
  • Track and evaluate change orders affecting IT scope, cost, or schedule.
  • Maintain the IT project schedule, RAID log (risks, actions, issues, decisions), and budget tracking.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and as-built documentation are delivered at closeout.

Testing, Acceptance & Handoff

  • Review cable certification and fiber test results (e.g., Fluke reports); require remediation of failures.
  • Lead punch-list walkthroughs for IT spaces and cabling.
  • Coordinate network equipment installation and turn-up with internal IT and vendors.
  • Drive final acceptance, warranty documentation, and handoff to IT operations.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide weekly status reports to IT leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Escalate risks and issues early with clear options and recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of IT project management, with at least 3 years managing IT infrastructure for new construction, build-outs, or major renovations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of structured cabling, fiber, low-voltage systems, and data center/telecom room design.
  • Working knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards, NEC requirements for IT spaces, and BICSI practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and low-voltage/technology drawings.
  • Experience working directly with General Contractors, electrical contractors, and low-voltage subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with enterprise network infrastructure (switching, routing, wireless) sufficient to coordinate turn-up.
  • Strong scheduling, budgeting, and change-management skills; proficiency with MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable leading meetings with trades and executives.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP, CAPM, or PMI-CP certification.
  • BICSI RCDD or BICSI Technician certification.
  • Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, or Bluebeam.
  • Experience with government, utility, healthcare, or other secure/regulated facilities.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
