About the Role
We’re looking for a rockstar Tech Lead for Unpaqd who can own the full stack end to end. You’ll wear multiple hats, balancing hands-on development with leading a lean team of young engineers. You’ll build our iOS and Android apps and the Java Spring Boot services behind them, working with Kafka, MySQL, and GCP. From mobile screens and web experiences to backend services and databases, you’ll own the entire software development lifecycle. We’re looking for someone who actively uses AI to solve complex problems, build sophisticated products faster, and make smarter engineering decisions. Above all, you should be a proactive problem-solver who takes ownership, thrives in ambiguity, and turns ideas into working solutions without waiting to be told what to do. You’ll report directly to the CTO.

📱 Mobile (Primary Focus)

• Build and maintain cross-platform apps using React Native (TypeScript/JavaScript)
• Turn Figma designs into smooth, pixel-accurate UIs
• Manage state with Redux, Zustand or React Query
• Integrate APIs, push notifications, deep links and third-party SDKs
• Write native modules (Swift/Kotlin) when needed
• Improve app performance and offline behavior
• Manage App Store and Play Store releases and CI/CD (Fastlane, EAS, Bitrise)

⚙️ Backend

• Build REST microservices with Java and Spring Boot
• Build event-driven workflows with Apache Kafka
• Design MySQL schemas and tune queries
• Deploy and run services on GCP (GKE/Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, IAM, Monitoring)

🤝 Across the Stack

• Own features end to end with product, design and QA
• Write tests (Jest, Detox, JUnit, Mockito)
• Take part in code reviews, architecture discussions and production support
• Mentor junior engineers

✅ Must Have

• Looking to work in a 0-1 enviornment with extremely high level of ownership
• 4–8 years of overall software development experience
• 4+ years with React Native in production
• 3+ years with Java and Spring Boot (MVC, Data JPA, Security)
• Hands-on experience with Kafka in production
• Strong SQL and MySQL skills
• Practical experience with GCP
• Docker, Git and CI/CD
• API design, OAuth2/JWT and secure coding
• Strong problem-solving and clear communication

⭐ Nice to Have

• Native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) experience
• Kubernetes (GKE), Terraform or Helm
• Redis, Elasticsearch or other NoSQL stores
• Sentry, Crashlytics, Prometheus or Grafana
• B.Tech/B.E/M.tech. in CS or a related field (or equivalent experience)
