About the job
About the role
You will work in our hardware lab, directly with our CTO, on battery-powered field devices and networked sensor systems. This is a hands-on internship. You will build, wire, test and fix hardware that goes out to real sites, and you will own real pieces of work from your first month. Along the way you will learn how a working prototype becomes a device that survives the field: power, interfaces, firmware, enclosures and testing.
What you will do
- Assemble, wire and test devices built on Raspberry Pi class Linux boards and ESP32 microcontrollers.
- Bring up sensors and modules over I2C, I2S, UART and SPI, and work out why one is not responding when it fails.
- Test battery and power systems: measure voltage and current, check charging, and record how long a device runs.
- Write and flash firmware in C/C++ (Arduino or ESP-IDF), and small Python scripts for testing.
- Help turn breadboard prototypes into soldered builds and, later, a custom PCB.
- Run checks on every device before it ships, and keep a written log of each fault you find and how you fixed it.
- Travel to field sites to install and check devices, and help wire sensors on installation projects.
Work experience
- No formal work experience required.
- Final-year student or recent graduate in electronics, electrical, instrumentation, mechatronics or a related field. Diploma holders are welcome.
- At least one electronics project you built yourself: a college project, a competition entry or a personal build. We will ask you about it in detail.
- Available to work full-time on-site in Bengaluru for the length of the internship, and able to travel to field sites for a few days at a time.
Skills
Must have:
- Electronics basics: Ohm's law, voltage dividers, pull-up resistors, and reading a datasheet.
- Hands-on use of a multimeter and a soldering iron.
- You have programmed a microcontroller (Arduino, ESP32 or similar) in C or C++.
- Basic Linux command line.
- Careful habits: you check voltages and polarity before powering anything up.
- Clear written notes that someone else can follow.
Good to have:
- Experience with ESP32 or Raspberry Pi.
- PCB design in KiCad or EasyEDA, even a single board.
- Lithium batteries, chargers or buck converters.
- Python scripting.
- Wireless links: Wi-Fi, LoRa or ESP-NOW.
- 3D printing or enclosure work.
What you will learn
- Power design for battery devices: protection, charging, current sensing and safe shutdown.
- Debugging real hardware faults with measurements, one change at a time.
- Taking a design from breadboard to soldered build to PCB.
- Installing and supporting devices at field sites.
How to apply
Apply through Wellfound with your current CV attached to your profile. In your application note, share one thing you built with your own hands (a link to photos, a video, GitHub or a short write-up) and tell us one thing that went wrong while building it and how you found the cause.
Shortlisted applicants will receive a short technical questionnaire as the next step.
