Role Overview
NetApp is seeking an experienced Python Software Engineer / Infrastructure Automation Developer for a long-term consulting opportunity supporting Bank of America.
In this role, you'll help develop, maintain, and modernize an enterprise infrastructure automation platform using object-oriented Python. You'll collaborate with product, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and operations teams in an Agile environment to deliver scalable, reliable, and well-tested software solutions.
This is a hands-on Python software development role, rather than a traditional storage administration or scripting-focused position. The ideal candidate brings strong Python development expertise, experience building API-driven services, and a solid understanding of modern software engineering practices.
Prior NetApp or enterprise storage experience is not required. Candidates with strong Python software development backgrounds and an interest in infrastructure automation are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain clean, scalable, object-oriented Python code for infrastructure automation services and applications.
- Develop and enhance API-driven services, supporting the modernization of legacy automation into microservices architecture.
- Utilize Git, Bitbucket, and Jira for source control, branching, pull requests, code reviews, and development tracking.
- Collaborate within an Agile development team, participating in sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and deployment documentation.
- Troubleshoot, debug, profile, and optimize application performance and automation workflows.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and code reviews while ensuring code quality and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, SRE, and infrastructure operations teams to deliver reliable production solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and contribute to software engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional Python development experience, with strong object-oriented programming (OOP) skills and hands-on experience developing production-level applications or services.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and cloud architecture principles.
- Experience with Git and Bitbucket workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative code reviews.
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB query development.
- Experience using Ansible for configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and automation.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, debugging, performance optimization, and unit/integration testing.
- Experience working within Agile software development teams and participating in Agile ceremonies.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for code completion, LLM-assisted coding, automated test generation, and AI-assisted code reviews.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing infrastructure automation solutions, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation frameworks, and pipeline automation.
- Familiarity with enterprise storage technologies, including SAN/NAS, object storage, or distributed storage systems.
- Experience developing or maintaining applications using Golang (Go).
- Knowledge of Kafka, including producers, consumers, or stream processing.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized applications.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with application observability
Additional Details
