Job Overview

A ServiceNow Developer designs, customizes, configures, and maintains enterprise workflows on the ServiceNow cloud platform. They turn complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions across IT, HR, Customer Service, and Operations domains. This role sits at the intersection of full-stack web development, workflow automation, enterprise integrations, and IT Service Management (ITSM) frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Customization & Core Scripting
• Develop custom applications, forms, tables, and workflows within the ServiceNow ecosystem.
• Write client-side scripts (Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions) and server-side scripts (Business Rules, Script Includes, Scheduled Jobs) using JavaScript and ServiceNow Glide APIs.
• Configure Access Control Lists (ACLs) to ensure strict data security and role-based permissions.
• Integration & Automation
• Design, build, and maintain REST/SOAP web service integrations to connect ServiceNow with third-party systems (e.g., IAM platforms, ERPs, HRIS, monitoring tools).
• Utilize Flow Designer, Integration Hub, and legacy Workflow Editor to automate multi-step business processes.
• Service Portal & UI Development
• Build and enhance Service Portal pages, custom widgets, and user interfaces using AngularJS, HTML5, CSS/SASS, and Bootstrap.
• Implement Service Catalog items, record producers, variable sets, and fulfillment workflows.
• Platform Governance & Upgrades
• Package, manage, and promote code across environments (Dev, Test, Prod) using Update Sets and Application Repositories.
• Support platform upgrades, version patches, and regression testing to minimize customization conflicts and maintain system health.
• Maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), Service Mapping, and Discovery configurations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Core Scripting: JavaScript (ES5/ES6), ServiceNow Glide System (GlideRecord, GlideSystem, GlideAjax).
• Web Technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JSON, XML, REST, SOAP APIs, AngularJS/Bootstrap (for Service Portal).
• Platform Expertise: ITSM (Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge), Service Catalog, Business Rules, Flow Designer, Scoped Applications, CMDB.
• Methodologies: Agile/Scrum, ITIL v3/v4 frameworks, Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD).

Experience & Education

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
• Experience: Typically 2–5+ years of software development experience with at least 2+ years dedicated to ServiceNow development.

Preferred Certifications

• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) (Baseline requirement for most roles)
• ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) (Core developer credential)
• Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) in specific modules (e.g., ITSM, HRSD, ITOM, SecOps)
• ITIL v4 Foundation Certification
