About the job

Job Description

Senior PL/SQL ETL Developer: A 12+ years data professional responsible for designing, building, and optimizing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) workflows. Operating primarily within Oracle Database environments, leverage Oracle's proprietary PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) to move massive datasets from transactional systems (OLTP) into analytical data warehouses (OLAP).

Core Responsibilities And Skills

  • Data Extraction & Ingestion: Pulling raw data from diverse sources including flat files, APIs, external cloud architectures, and legacy databases.
  • Data Transformation: Writing sophisticated stored procedures, functions, packages, and database triggers to clean, aggregate, format, and validate business data.
  • Data Loading: Efficiently inserting the transformed data into data warehouses using bulk processing techniques like FORALL statements, bulk collections, and Oracle's BULK COLLECT architecture to minimize context switching between the SQL and PL/SQL engines.
  • Performance Tuning: Analyzing execution plans, optimizing slow-running queries, configuring proper indexing strategies (B-Tree, Bitmap), partitioning tables, and rewriting code to manage enterprise-scale workloads.
  • Oracle Database & PL/SQL: Mastery of relational database management systems (RDBMS), database design, explicit/implicit cursors, collection types, exception handling, and analytical SQL window functions. [1, 2, 3]
  • Dedicated ETL Tools: While PL/SQL itself acts as a native programmatic ETL engine, professionals frequently collaborate with enterprise ETL suites such as Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), or Talend.
  • Scripting & Automation: Creating Linux/Unix shell scripts and utilizing scheduling engines (such as Control-M, Autosys, or cron jobs) to automate nightly or streaming batch pipelines.
  • Tools & Utilities: Deep familiarity with development tools (TOAD, SQL Developer, SQL Navigator) and shell scripting (Unix/Linux) for batch automation.
  • Data Warehousing Concepts: Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, specifically Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and Slowing Changing Dimensions (SCD Types 1, 2, and 3)
