Java Technical Lead

Location: Irving, TX

We’re looking for an experienced Java Tech Lead to lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native backend services on AWS. This is a hands-on player-coach role where you’ll provide technical direction, contribute to critical development, and directly manage and mentor engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop scalable microservices and REST APIs using Java 17+ and Spring Boot
• Make architecture decisions across AWS, including ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS/SNS, IAM and CloudWatch
• Design state machines/workflow orchestration, including AWS Step Functions
• Lead code/design reviews and contribute production code on critical paths
• Drive CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, automated testing, observability and production reliability
• Lead Agile delivery and collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, Security and Architecture teams
• Directly manage engineers, including 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, coaching and career development

Required Experience

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 7+ years in Java backend development
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security and REST APIs
• 3+ years designing and running production applications on AWS
• Strong experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, messaging, caching and resiliency patterns
• Hands-on state machine/workflow orchestration experience, preferably AWS Step Functions
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL/Oracle and DynamoDB
• CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes/ECS, JUnit and Mockito
• 2+ years of direct people-management experience, including performance reviews and career development
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field

Nice to Have AWS certification, Terraform/CDK/CloudFormation, Kafka/MSK/Kinesis, New Relic or similar observability tools, cloud modernization, and retail/e-commerce/payments experience.
