About Whitebrinjal

Whitebrinjal is building an enterprise technology market network focused on the journey from technology discovery to enterprise adoption.

Enterprise technology decisions are often fragmented. Buyers struggle to define requirements, evaluate solutions, align stakeholders and navigate complex procurement processes. Whitebrinjal is being built to bring structure to this journey through connected workflows, market intelligence and technology discovery.

We already have a substantial product foundation, including frontend development, product designs and extensive modules and UX flows. The immediate task is to turn this foundation into a robust, working enterprise platform.

The role

I'm looking for a senior React.js engineer who wants to take ownership of frontend engineering and help build Whitebrinjal from its current product foundation.

This isn't a role where you'll simply receive designs, pick up tickets and write components. You'll work directly with me on product decisions, frontend architecture and engineering priorities.

You'll need to understand an existing codebase, identify what's working and what isn't, make sound technical decisions, and own the work required to get the product production-ready.

The role calls for someone who can work independently, challenge assumptions when needed and take responsibility for the quality of what gets shipped.

What you'll work on

Frontend architecture

  • Own and evolve the React.js and TypeScript application architecture.
  • Build reusable components, consistent UI patterns and maintainable application structures.
  • Make decisions around state management, routing, data fetching and API integration.
  • Identify technical debt and improve the codebase without resorting to unnecessary rewrites.

Product development

  • Turn complex product requirements and designs into working interfaces.
  • Build multi-step workflows, data-intensive screens, dashboards, forms and configuration interfaces.
  • Integrate frontend modules with backend APIs, authentication and role-based permissions.
  • Handle validation, loading states, errors and edge cases properly.

Performance and engineering quality

  • Diagnose and resolve rendering, responsiveness and performance issues.
  • Establish sensible testing, debugging, code review and release practices.
  • Improve accessibility, consistency and reliability across the application.
  • Make practical trade-offs between delivery speed and long-term maintainability.

Ownership beyond implementation

  • Work directly with the founder on product priorities and technical decisions.
  • Take features from problem definition through implementation, testing and release.
  • Identify gaps, propose solutions and follow through without waiting for every step to be assigned.
  • Help establish frontend engineering standards and contribute to future technical hiring.

What I'm looking for

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial hands-on experience building production applications using React.js.
  • Strong JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals.
  • Experience owning frontend architecture, not just implementing individual components.
  • A track record of building complex applications involving multiple workflows, integrations and user roles.
  • Strong understanding of state management, asynchronous data flows, component design and frontend performance.
  • Experience integrating APIs, authentication and access-control systems.
  • Good engineering judgement: knowing when to build, refactor, simplify or leave something alone.
  • The ability to work with an existing codebase, understand its limitations and improve it pragmatically.
  • Comfort working directly with a founder in an early-stage environment where priorities and solutions will evolve.

Experience with Next.js, design systems, component libraries, accessibility, frontend testing and enterprise SaaS products is a plus.

What matters to me

I'm interested in what you've built, what you personally owned and how you approach difficult engineering decisions.

You may have worked at a large technology company, a product startup or a smaller engineering team. Your employer's name matters less than the depth of your experience and the quality of your work.

I want to understand the applications you've shipped, the problems you've solved in production, the architectural decisions you've made and what you learned from them.

A senior title and a list of technologies aren't enough. I need someone who can think through a problem, make a decision, write the code and take responsibility for the outcome.

The equity-only arrangement

Whitebrinjal is currently pre-MVP, pre-revenue and pre-institutional-funding. There is no initial salary or cash compensation.

This is a full-time, equity-only founding opportunity, not a salaried position with an equity bonus. It requires a genuine commitment to building the company, along with a clear understanding of the financial uncertainty involved.

You should have the personal runway to consider this decision responsibly and be comfortable prioritising long-term ownership over an immediate salary.

Equity terms will depend on the agreed responsibilities, commitment and contribution. The structure and terms will need to be discussed transparently before any commitment is made.

This is not a freelance assignment, a part-time advisory role or a conventional salaried position.

Why join Whitebrinjal?

The product foundation and direction are already in place. The opportunity now is to make the engineering decisions that turn them into a working product.

You'll work directly with the founder, have a real say in how the frontend is built and take ownership of an important part of the platform from an early stage.

As Whitebrinjal grows, there will be an opportunity to help shape the engineering team and the standards it works by.

If you want to move beyond implementing predefined requirements and take responsibility for building a product and the company behind it, this may be worth exploring.

Interested?

Please apply with your CV or LinkedIn profile and answer these questions:

  1. What is the most complex React.js application you've built or substantially owned? What exactly did you do?
  2. Describe a frontend architecture decision you made and why you made it.
  3. What is a significant performance, reliability or maintainability problem you've solved in production?
  4. Have you taken a feature or system from technical design through production release? What did you own?
  5. Why are you considering an equity-only founding role at this stage of your career?

A GitHub profile, portfolio or examples of relevant technical work are welcome.

I'm looking for someone who can take ownership, make good engineering decisions and work with me to turn Whitebrinjal's existing product foundation into a production-ready enterprise platform.
