- Develop and support custom pages, scripts, reports, workflows, extracts, and extensions where required.
- Understand PowerSchool SIS underlying database and data structures and use them effectively when designing solutions.
- Maintain existing customizations and refactor legacy solutions when necessary.
Systems Integration
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot integrations between PowerSchool SIS and other enterprise systems, and a homegrown LMS.
- Understand data dependencies and ensure accurate movement of student, staff, enrollment, course, grade, attendance, transcript, and related information across systems.
- Diagnose integration failures and coordinate resolution with internal/external teams.
- Build appropriate logging, validation, monitoring, and error-handling mechanisms for critical integrations.
Data and Technical Architecture
- Maintain a strong understanding of the PowerSchool SIS data model, including student, enrollment, course, section, school, grade, transcript, attendance, and related structures.
- Analyze complex data relationships and support teams that consume PowerSchool SIS data for operational, reporting, analytics, and regulatory purposes.
- Support data extracts, transformations, synchronization processes, and downstream reporting requirements.
Transcript, Grades, and Academic Records Support
- Provide technical support for transcript generation, historical grades, credits, GPA calculations, graduation-related data, and academic records.
PowerSchool SIS Upgrades and Release Management
- Evaluate PowerSchool SIS releases, patches, and upgrades for potential impact on integrations, customizations, database structures, and dependent applications.
- Perform technical impact assessments before upgrades.
- Identify custom functionality that may be affected by platform changes and remediate it before production rollout.
Production Support and Operational Reliability
- Provide advanced technical support for PowerSchool SIS production issues.
- Investigate and resolve application, integration, data, performance, and customization issues.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams when issues span multiple systems.
Technical Documentation and Knowledge Management
- Maintain documentation for integrations, customizations, APIs, data mappings, scheduled jobs, dependencies, and operational procedures.
- Develop technical runbooks for critical PowerSchool SIS processes and integrations.
Collaboration and Technical Leadership
- Partner with PowerSchool SIS administrators and business users while serving as the technical expert for the SIS.
- Participate in solution design and architecture discussions when PowerSchool SIS is affected by broader technology initiatives.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced PowerSchool Administrator with 8–10 years of deep expertise in system administration, database query tools, and complex system customizations. In this role, you will manage, optimize, and customize the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS), ensure seamless integration with third-party tools and the Edio platform, and maintain the integrity and security of student and school-level data across operations.
Technical Requirements
- PowerSchool Administration: 8–10 years of direct, hands-on experience in PowerSchool SIS administration, module configuration, and advanced customizations.
- Database Management: Strong proficiency with database querying tools (Oracle SQL Developer, MySQL, MS SQL, or similar) to query, analyze, and manage backend SIS data structures.
- Web Customization Technologies: Practical development experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML for custom page creation and plugin development.
- System Integrations: Proven track record in API integrations, web services management, and key-based security protocol maintenance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Problem-Solving: Highly organized self-starter equipped with analytical skills and critical troubleshooting capabilities.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and school administration stakeholders.
Success in This Role
Success should be measured by the reliability of the PowerSchool SIS and its integrations, accuracy of data movement, quality and maintainability of custom development, stability through PowerSchool SIS upgrades, speed of resolution for production issues, reduction in recurring technical incidents, and the organization's ability to evolve the PowerSchool SIS without creating unnecessary technical debt.
