About the job
Senior Mechanical Engineer
SiLC is a silicon photonics and optical sensing company building next-generation coherent lidar solutions. We have an immediate opening for a full-time, on-site (Monrovia, CA) Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic, experienced team developing high-performance FMCW lidar sensors. This role will own the full mechanical design of coherent lidar sensors for high-precision industrial metrology, from concept through production. The ideal candidate will have strong experience integrating electronics and other components into a single, cohesive mechanical assembly, and will be comfortable driving all aspects of the product life cycle — from prototype to volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
- Own the full mechanical layout and design of coherent lidar systems, including electronic enclosure design, thermal management, and integration of electrical and optoelectronic subassemblies into a single, cohesive mechanical assembly.
- Design and detail machined, sheet metal, and cast parts using SolidWorks.
- Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost optimization, partnering directly with machine shops, sheet metal, and casting vendors on part reviews and process selection.
- Own the full product lifecycle — concept, detailed design, prototyping, pilot builds through NPI, and ramp-to-production, including process and fixture development for volume manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering; 7+ years of relevant prototype-to-production design experience, with demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal oversight.
- Expert-level CAD skills in SolidWorks, including advanced solid modeling, detailed production drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies that integrate electronics into enclosures with thermal management from prototype to production.
- Demonstrated experience designing machined parts, sheet metal components, and cast parts, with knowledge of fabrication processes such as CNC milling, EDM, die casting, laser cutting, and finishing processes (anodizing, plating, powder coating).
- Experience with PDM/PLM tools (e.g., SolidWorks PDM)
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with SolidWorks Simulation FEA or a comparable tool (e.g., ANSYS) for mechanical and thermal analysis.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques.
Compensation
- Base salary: $130,000 - $145,000 based on experience level and qualifications
- Stock options
- Other benefits include health/vision/dental insurance, 401(k), etc.
