Job Purpose
Provide financial oversight and analytical support for engineering projects throughout their lifecycle. This role partners with project managers, operations, and accounting to monitor budgets, revenue, forecasts, and performance; identify financial risks and scope changes; and ensure projects are delivered profitably, in compliance with contractual requirements, and aligned with company financial objectives. The position also supports broader accounting and financial management activities and may cross-train in additional Finance and Accounting functions to support departmental coverage and business continuity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
- Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, utilization, WIP, and profitability.
- Track project performance against approved budgets and forecasts; identify variances, trends, and financial risks.
- Monitor compliance with project financial controls, follow up on required forecast updates, and escalate exceptions or financial risks in accordance with established procedures.
- Support project setup, maintenance, and forecasting within DAVENPORT’s project management systems.
Reporting, Forecasting, and Analysis
Prepare and distribute recurring financial and operational reports, including:
- Utilization and productivity
- Workload and staffing capacity
- Work-in-progress (WIP)
- Project and company performance summaries
Assist with project-level and company-wide forecasting and financial projections.
Develop and maintain dashboards and KPIs used by leadership and operations.
Collaboration and Data Integrity
- Partner with Project Managers, Operations, and Accounting to ensure financial data is accurate, timely, and consistently applied.
- Train staff on information when necessary.
- Support process improvements related to project financial tracking and reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support and cross-train in general accounting and financial management functions, including reconciliations, month-end activities, financial reporting, and other accounting processes, to provide departmental coverage and support business continuity.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in project financial analysis, project controls, or operational finance in A/E/C industry.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and experience with general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statements.
- Experience working with project budgets, revenue recognition, utilization, and WIP.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with numerical and analytical data.
- Experience with Deltek Ajera or similar project-based financial systems preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to clearly communicate financial information to non-finance team members.
