Role Description The CMM Programmer is a full-time, on-site role based in the South Bend–Mishawaka region, responsible for programming and operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to support precision inspection of machined parts and assemblies. Day-to-day tasks include creating and modifying CMM programs, performing dimensional inspections, interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T, and documenting inspection results for quality records. The role works closely with machinists, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve measurement issues, verify part conformity, and support root-cause analysis for nonconformances. The CMM Programmer will also help maintain calibration of measurement equipment, refine inspection processes for efficiency, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in the quality department.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency with gauges and measurement tools, including the ability to select appropriate instruments for specific inspection tasks.
- Hands-on experience in quality control, with a focus on ensuring parts and assemblies meet specifications and standards.
- Solid understanding of dimensional measurements, tolerances, and GD&T, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience with calibration and inspection processes, including maintaining and verifying the accuracy of measurement equipment and CMM systems.
- Prior experience programming and operating CMMs (e.g., PC-DMIS or similar software) in a precision machining or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot measurement and quality issues.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams on the production floor.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with quality documentation, reporting, and data entry into quality management systems.
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in machining, manufacturing technology, metrology, or a related field is preferred.
