Backend GraphQL Developer

Position: Sr Backend Engineer – GraphQL API

Location: Remote

Seeking a hands-on Sr Backend Engineer to build scalable backend services and GraphQL APIs for a large-scale sports data platform. This is a technical-lead/individual contributor role with no people management.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop GraphQL schemas, subgraphs, resolvers, and backend services
• Build scalable TypeScript/Node.js services within a federated GraphQL architecture
• Integrate data from MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, and external services
• Design and migrate data models for a federated GraphQL architecture
• Process and integrate sports data from third-party sources
• Improve system performance, scalability, monitoring, and observability
• Implement automated unit/integration testing and support CI/CD
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical planning
• Provide technical estimates and evaluate implementation risks
• Own backend features from design through production

Must-Have Skills

• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong TypeScript, Node.js, and GraphQL experience
• Hands-on experience building GraphQL schemas, subgraphs, and resolvers
• Experience with GraphQL Federation and backend API development
• Strong MySQL and/or MongoDB experience
• Experience with scalable system design and architecture
• CI/CD, automated testing, and production deployment experience
• Strong communication and ability to work independently
