Field Engineer – Heavy Civil / Excavation
Onyx Corporation is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join our heavy civil and excavation team. This is a hands-on position supporting Project Managers in the field and providing an opportunity to grow your career in construction with a family-owned company.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with daily field operations.
- Review plans, specifications, elevations, grades, and construction details.
- Assist with excavation, grading, drainage, utilities, and sitework activities.
- Track project quantities, production, materials, trucking, and equipment.
- Maintain daily reports, project documentation, photographs, and field records.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, change orders, and project cost tracking.
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and project teams.
- Identify field issues and help develop practical solutions.
- Monitor work for quality, safety, and compliance with project plans.
- Participate in project meetings and assist with scheduling and coordination.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Construction or field experience preferred; internships considered.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with HCSS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GPS/GNSS, or similar construction technology is a plus.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
