Software Engineer, Envoy AI Foundations

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience programming in C++, Python or Go.
• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience developing applications, systems, or infrastructure using C++.
• Ability to understand, debug, and implement network protocols.

Envoy is a high-performance open-source HTTP proxy written in C++. It serves as the data plane for Google front end, internal load balancing, video streaming, app engine proxies, and API Gateways. It is also the foundation for agentic networking at Google Cloud.

The team’s mission is to ensure Envoy remains the HTTP proxy for all of Google, its customers, the entire Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem, and the OSS community, while driving and solidifying its adoption as the premier proxy for AI-specific workloads, and providing strong, collaborative leadership of its open-source community.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Master the Envoy ecosystem and contribute to both in open source and in google3.
• Contribute to new features including in the AI space.
• Ensure Envoy features integrate cleanly and efficiently from OSS into the Google production ecosystem.
• Contribute to maintaining the scalability, stability, and security of Envoy that is required by the large-scale deployment at Google and expected by our OSS community.
