About the job

Unyceet is looking for a hands-on Head of Engineering to take ownership of our technical direction and engineering function as we move from product development into live market validation and scale.

You’ll work closely with the Founder/CEO, taking company and product priorities and owning the engineering response — developing the technical direction, turning it into clear engineering plans, and leading the team responsible for delivering it.

You’ll be joining an established engineering team with experience across product development, mobile, backend systems, fintech, site reliability and scalable cloud infrastructure. The core Unyceet product is already built and approaching market validation.

We’re looking for an experienced technical leader who can bridge business and product context with technical execution. You should be comfortable taking a high-level problem or outcome, developing the domain understanding required to solve it, challenging assumptions where necessary, establishing a sound technical direction and driving it through to delivery.

That means being willing to go beyond the immediate codebase. You’ll be expected to understand the business, customers, provider environment and wider category the technology operates within; explore unfamiliar domains; acquire the context needed to make good decisions; and translate real-world requirements into sound technical solutions.

You’ll work with experienced engineers across their respective areas of expertise, providing technical leadership and oversight while giving them the ownership and autonomy to engineer their components effectively. You won’t need to personally make every technical decision — but you will be accountable for ensuring the team reaches strong decisions and that the wider engineering outcome is delivered.

This is also a hands-on role. You’ll build alongside the team, contribute meaningful production code and get directly involved in high-impact technical problems while owning the wider engineering function.

Beyond technical direction, you’ll take ownership of how engineering operates — prioritisation, planning, delegation, visibility, accountability and delivery. As the company grows, you’ll also help shape the engineering organisation, maintain a high bar for performance and ownership, identify capability gaps and play a leading role in technical hiring.

Overall, we’re looking for someone who can build with and lead a high-performing engineering team to a high standard, brings genuine curiosity to the category we’re building in, is looking to take real ownership of engineering at Unyceet, and is excited by the opportunity to grow into a long-term technical leader within the company.

Initially contributing for equity during market validation, with the intention of moving into a full-time salaried role once funding has been secured.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Owning Unyceet’s technical direction and engineering execution
  • Translating company and product priorities into sound technical direction and clear engineering plans
  • Developing the domain and technical context required to make well-informed engineering decisions
  • Prioritising work and driving engineering from planning through to delivery
  • Delegating ownership effectively, enabling engineers to work autonomously while maintaining clear alignment and accountability
  • Maintaining visibility across priorities, progress, commitments and blockers
  • Providing technical leadership and oversight across the system, leveraging the expertise of engineers across their respective areas
  • Remaining hands-on and contributing directly to high-impact product and platform development
  • Maintaining a high bar for engineering quality, performance, ownership and accountability
  • Identifying technical risks, capability gaps and future hiring requirements
  • Building an engineering function capable of operating effectively without requiring consistent day-to-day direction
