Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Quality Engineer I SHIFT: 1st.

SECTION OR DEPARTMENT: Electronics Division, Quality Department

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

LOCATION: Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. Edmonton, KY

BASIC POSITION DUTIES:

• Monitors, reviews and confirms daily quality performance of assigned Production Lines.
• Tracks in-process defects of assigned lines and identifies improvement activities to reduce and/or eliminate target defects.
• Investigate Quality problems / concerns of the OEM assigned.
• Analyze and investigate root cause Quality issues of the assigned OEM.
• Assist in developing robust countermeasures for in-house and OEM Quality issues by Leading root cause analysis using tools such as 5 why, fishbone, DOE, & SPC.
• Compile analysis report, report to OEM and track status to closure.
• Assist in establishing and developing manufacturing operation procedures, equipment procedures, Daily check items, and other documentation of procedures for assembly processes.
• Report on OEM Quality issues to management
• Creates, maintains, and improves PFMEA, Process Quality Control Plan, and all associated documents.
• Supports and communications with all departments to identify potential quality concerns and improvement activities.
• Support APQP/PPAP activities.
• Perform process capability studies.
• Analyze defects related to soldering, SMT processes, components, ESD & functional testing.
• Support validation testing and failure analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, rework & warranty risks.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Quality Engineering Technologist – HS, GED, or technical certificate plus 1-3 years’ experience.
• Quality Engineer - Engineering Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related field.
• Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in Electronics manufacturing and demonstrated applicable engineering skills.
• Good Communication and Computer Skills.
• Experience may be substitution for degree.
• Experience in Microsoft office computer programs.
• Travel as needed, including potentially international.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

• Works with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments daily.
• Reports to Manager of Quality.
• Work with other Quality Team members in team activity to support projects.
