Software Engineer

At InsureMyTrip, Software Engineers play an important role in building and evolving the technology behind our Digital Commerce Platform. You’ll collaborate with Product, UX, QA, DevOps, and Site Reliability teams to create reliable, secure, and high-performing eCommerce experiences. Beyond developing solutions, you’ll contribute to system design, platform modernization, and technical best practices while helping ensure our systems remain stable, scalable, and ready for what’s next.

This role is Hybrid, you must be able to come into Warwick, RI office. Remote work will not be considered at this time.

Key ResponsibilitiesSoftware Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain ecommerce applications and services.

• Contribute to backend and/or frontend components supporting legacy stabilization of legacy applications and driving new modern software architecture.

• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following established engineering standards.

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.

Software Design & Documentation

• Develop and maintain software design documentation, including technical specifications, architecture diagrams, API contracts, and integration flows.

• Document system changes and ensure alignment with established architectural standards.

• Participate in design reviews and contribute thoughtful technical input.

• Ensure documentation supports knowledge sharing, onboarding, and long-term maintainability.

Site Reliability & Operational Excellence

• Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance.

• Contribute to monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability improvements.

• Support production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and participate in root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.

• Help define and support service level objectives (SLOs) and reliability metrics.

• Participate in on-call rotations as required.

System Design & Scalability

• Contribute to the design of scalable, secure, and high-performing systems.

• Support modernization efforts, including API-first and cloud-based architecture.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and reliability issues.

• Assist in designing integrations with third-party services (payments, pricing, CRM, etc.).

Collaboration

• Partner with Product Management to clarify requirements and deliver high-quality features.

• Work closely with QA to ensure strong test coverage and release quality.

• Collaborate with DevOps to support CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.

• Participate actively in sprint planning, retrospectives, and team ceremonies.

QualificationsRequired

• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 2+ years of software development experience.

• Experience building web applications or APIs.

• Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Java, .NET, Node.js, Python) or modern frontend framework (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) as well as PHP, JavaScript.

• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.

• Understanding RESTful services and system integration.

• Experience contributing to technical documentation.

• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, or production support practices.

Preferred

• Experience with ecommerce platforms or high-transaction systems.

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Experience monitoring and optimizing site performance using modern web performance metrics, including Core Web Vitals (e.g., LCP, FCP, INP) and percentile-based measurements (e.g., p75 performance thresholds).

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus, Google Lighthouse, or similar).

• Exposure to SRE concepts such as SLOs, SLIs, and incident management.

• Understanding security best practices in web applications.
