Enterprise Resources Planning Developer

Sylvan Inc. is a multi-division construction and industrial company with operations across the United States and Canada. Trimble Viewpoint Vista is the system of record for our job cost, accounting, payroll, and project financials across every division.

We are looking for an ERP Application Engineer to own the reports, integrations, and custom solutions built on Vista, and to extend them with modern APIs, automation, and practical AI tools. This is a hands-on technical role that works directly with accounting, payroll, project management, operations, and leadership. The right person understands how construction companies run on their ERP and can turn a business need into a reliable, well-documented solution.

Key Responsibilities

Vista Development & Reporting

• Design, develop, and optimize complex T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and functions against the Vista database, drawing on a working knowledge of Vista table structures, posting logic, and cross-module relationships.
• Build and maintain Crystal Reports and SSRS reports for accounting, project managers, operations, and leadership, including reports that combine summary, detail, and export options.
• Develop datasets and dashboards (Power BI or similar) covering job cost performance, project profitability, cash flow and billing status, and labor, equipment, and subcontractor activity.
• Make sure reporting reconciles to Vista and supports construction accounting standards, internal controls, and audit requests.

Integrations & Automation

• Design, build, and support integrations between Vista and third-party systems such as payroll and benefits providers, banks, field and estimating tools, subcontractor prequalification, and internal applications.
• Choose the right integration method for the job, whether SSIS packages, REST APIs, or scheduled file exchanges, with a focus on data accuracy, error handling, and recoverability.
• Design and maintain RESTful APIs and services that connect internal applications to Vista and other core systems.
• Automate recurring business processes, such as payroll ACH and positive pay files, benefit carrier feeds, report generation and attachment to Vista records, and approval notifications.

Production Support & Operations

• Serve as the technical escalation point for Vista and integration issues. Monitor scheduled jobs and interfaces, respond to incidents within defined SLAs, and drive root-cause analysis and lasting fixes.
• Support Vista upgrades, patches, and module implementations, including testing custom reports, integrations, and code against each new release.
• Manage changes through source control, testing in non-production environments, and a documented release process, adopting CI/CD practices where they add value.

Collaboration, Documentation & Innovation

• Partner with business users to translate requirements into a defined scope of work with realistic time estimates, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document report logic, integrations, APIs, data definitions, and deployment steps so solutions can be supported by others over the long term.
• Evaluate and prototype practical uses of AI tools to improve development workflows, reporting, and support processes.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in ERP application development, reporting, or systems integration.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Trimble Viewpoint Vista in a construction environment, either at a contractor or as a Vista consultant or partner.
• Working knowledge of construction accounting and project controls, including job cost, WIP, percent complete, commitments, change orders, and construction payroll.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL Server (T-SQL).
• Strong experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting Crystal Reports and/or SSRS.
• Experience building and maintaining SSIS packages or comparable ETL tooling.
• Hands-on experience integrating business systems through APIs (REST/JSON) as well as file-based methods.
• Experience supporting production systems, including troubleshooting, incident response, and working against SLAs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Programming experience in C#/.NET or a similar language.
• Power BI experience, including DAX and data modeling.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with Trimble Viewpoint APIs and integration tools, or other Trimble construction applications.
• Familiarity with construction field and operations software (e.g., HCSS HeavyJob, estimating, or project management platforms).
• Experience supporting multi-company, multi-division environments, including US and Canadian operations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
• Experience using or integrating AI and LLM-based tools in development or business workflows.

Work Arrangement

• This is a hybrid position based out of Sylvan Inc.’s Detroit, MI office, combining in-office collaboration with remote flexibility. Specific in-office days will be coordinated with the hiring manager.
