About ProEdge
ProEdge Dental Water Labs is a team of selfless builders. By putting our focus on the success of customers, we've created a healthy, quickly-growing, dynamic company. Our ~50 team has taken on a significant challenge: transform compliance in the dental practice—an often distinct pain for our customers—into a culture of shared purpose for the safety of patients and staff. By building trust and developing value-based solutions, we've created an emerging brand in dental.
Because of that, "good work" is the floor here. What we're building takes people who care more about the mission than the credit, who tell the truth before it's comfortable, and who would rather be stretched by real responsibility than protected from it.
Our Values
- We build trust—by speaking candidly, doing what we say, and owning our mistakes.
- We serve the team above ourselves—by choosing the mission over comfort, clarifying expectations, and engaging in feedback.
- We delight our customers—by taking ownership of their experience, delivering quality they can count on, and treating every customer as valuable.
- We create clarity—by making the goal plain, speaking up when we don't know, and closing the loop when clarity is at risk.
- We improve—by driving our own growth, fixing the root, and making the better way repeatable.
The Software Engineer II Opportunity
Thousands of dental practices, from single offices to the largest dental groups in the country, use ProEdge's compliance platform to test their waterlines and sterilizers, see their results, and prove to inspectors that patients are safe. Our lab runs the tests. The platform is how the results reach the practice and how compliance is tracked, reminded, and reported. ProEdge is building its first in-house development team, and this role exists to make that platform one we own end to end: understood, covered by automated tests, deployed without downtime, and fast to change.
The team is two people: our Head of Technology and you. You will build with AI coding agents as the primary way code gets written, and your job is everything the agent cannot own: deciding what to build, specifying it precisely, reading every diff, proving it works, and answering for it in production. When you ship, the lab, our Customer Success team, and inside sales feel it the same week. A failed test that reaches a practice faster is a patient protected sooner.
Reports to: Head of Technology, Kyle Crone
Success Outcomes
- Every change to the platform ships through an automated, zero-downtime pipeline with one-click rollback that you and the Head of Technology can each run alone, within your first 90 days.
- The compliance engine and permissions model are covered by automated tests below the browser, and the end-to-end suite is rebuilt in Playwright so that independent, trustworthy specs rise every month and the platform runs on one test framework by your six-month mark.
- Inside sales and Customer Success work from data and reports built for them inside the platform, with a first cut in use within 120 days.
- Two legacy modules are migrated to the target stack (TypeScript, typed SQL access, React) under tests with no customer-visible regression by month six, and the migration order is written down for the modules that follow.
- Production is observable and safe: error tracking and alerting live, runbooks for the top failure modes, secrets in a managed store, and no critical or high dependency findings, within 90 days.
Core Responsibilities & Role Requirements
Core Responsibilities
- Direct AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, or whatever is best next quarter) to build, then read every diff, write the tests, and own the result in production. Nobody will ask you to prove you can type it by hand; everybody will ask how you know it works.
- Migrate the platform module by module from a homegrown JavaScript front end and an untyped Express API to TypeScript, typed SQL access, and React, using the strangler-fig pattern against live traffic. No big-bang rewrite, no cutover night.
- Write Playwright end-to-end tests, API permission tests, and SQL tests around a compliance engine built from stored procedures and triggers, and keep the merge gate green as the team's source of truth.
- Build and own the delivery platform on AWS (App Runner, Amplify Hosting, RDS, infrastructure as code with CDK): rolling deploys, rollback, monitoring, alerting, and managed secrets.
- Ship the reporting, data views, and exports the inside sales and Customer Success teams need, and sit with the people who use them.
- Own the platform's integrations: HubSpot for email, NetSuite for orders, the API our largest dental-group customers build on, and the data platform our BI team reports from.
- Write it down: decision records, runbooks, and a living map of the system, plus the conventions and context files that let an agent or a new engineer be productive in the repo in minutes.
- Share an on-call rotation with the Head of Technology once production is instrumented, and be steady when it misbehaves.
Role Requirements
- Roughly three to six years shipping and operating web software people actually use.
- Daily use of AI coding agents as your primary way of building, and the ability to show us your workflow live, including how you review, test, and correct what the agent produces.
- Strong SQL. You can read and reason about stored procedures, triggers, and views (MySQL 8 or Postgres), and you have opinions about when logic belongs in the database.
- Node.js and TypeScript on the back end (Express or similar); React on the front end.
- You have inherited a codebase you did not write and left it healthier, one tested change at a time.
- AWS, Docker, and GitHub Actions. Infrastructure as code (CDK or Terraform) is a strong plus.
- Playwright or Cypress for end-to-end testing.
- Security instincts: a committed secret, an unpinned dependency, or an endpoint that fails open bothers you until it is fixed.
- Writing a director can follow. You will write decision records, runbooks, and short updates.
- Comfortable being one of two engineers in a company of fifty: you raise problems early, propose solutions, and can stand up a small initiative on your own.
- Able to work in person at our Centennial, Colorado office.
- Not required: dental or compliance knowledge (we will teach you; the lab is down the hall) or a computer science degree.

Work Location
This is a hybrid role — 3 days a week in our Centennial office, the rest from wherever you work best. Office days are for team alignment, personal development, and collaboration.During onboarding we do require any new team member to be fully onsite, we are deliberate about investing in you and ensuring you are setup for success. Then after onboarding you'll move to our hybrid rhythm: remote Mondays and Fridays, in-office Tuesday through Thursday.
The Hiring Process
Every hire is one of the most important decisions we make, so we put real time into this — and we'll ask real time from you. The road generally runs: Initial Interview → Hiring Leader Interview → Cross-Team Panel → Onsite. At the end, you'll get a clear yes or no, communicated directly.
For this role there is no LeetCode and no whiteboard. Early in the process you will complete a short practical assessment on HackerRank built from real-world tasks: a small Node service to extend, some SQL, and a code review of a pull request.
