Role: E911 Network Engineer
Location: San Diego (NMCSD), San Diego, CA — On-site required
Clearance: Active Secret clearance required
U.S. Citizens ONLY due to legal or government contract requirement.
Position Overview
We are seeking E911 Network Engineer to support a Cisco E911 implementation project at a Federal Medical Facility in San Diego, CA. This is a hands-on infrastructure role focused on mapping and documenting the existing Brocade/Ruckus switch environment to support accurate emergency call routing on the new Cisco platform. This is a great fit for a network engineer with DoD experience who is comfortable working independently on-site in a secure, mission-critical healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation of a new Cisco-based E911 solution at NMCSD
- Audit and document port-level details across existing Brocade/Ruckus switches (port ID, VLAN, physical location, connected devices)
- Map switch port data to Emergency Response Locations (ERLs) for E911 compliance
- Validate documentation against physical site walkthroughs
- Coordinate with Cisco engineers and NMCSD stakeholders to ensure accurate, complete location data
- Deliver clean, organized documentation suitable for government/customer submission
Required Qualifications :
- Active Secret security clearance
- Security+ certification (current, DoD 8570/8140 compliant)
- Hands-on experience with Brocade and/or Ruckus ICX switching, including legacy ICX 7000-series (e.g., ICX 7150, now End-of-Sale) as well as current ICX 8000-series platforms (ICX 8100/8200) — since many government sites still run a mix of older Brocade-era ICX hardware alongside newer Ruckus models
- Experience working in DoD, Navy, or other federal network environments
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work on-site full-time at NMCSD
Preferred Certifications
- Experience with Cisco Emergency Responder (CER) or similar E911 platforms
- Familiarity with Cisco UC/network infrastructure
- Prior experience at military medical treatment facilities (MTFs)
- Familiarity with DoDIN-approved Ruckus ICX switches and FIPS-validated Ruckus products (relevant for federal network compliance)
