Coordinate Measuring Machine Programmer

We are seeking a highly skilled CMM Operator / CMM Programmer to join our growing aerospace manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), performing dimensional inspections, developing and editing inspection programs, and ensuring products meet stringent aerospace and customer specifications.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with GD&T, first article inspections, PC-DMIS programming, and aerospace quality standards. This position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling, and Quality teams to support production and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

CMM Programming & Inspection

• Program, operate, and troubleshoot Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
• Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections as required.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models to ensure dimensional compliance.
• Edit and optimize CMM programs using PC-DMIS.
• Record and maintain accurate inspection data, dimensional results, and measurement reports.
• Determine appropriate measuring instruments based on blueprint requirements.
• Monitor production inspection programs and respond to inspection errors or process issues.

Quality Assurance

• Verify product conformity using GD&T principles and accepted inspection methods.
• Create and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when products fail to meet specifications.
• Properly identify, label, and segregate nonconforming material.
• Review outside processing certifications including NDT, chemical processing, and finishing documentation.
• Perform Rockwell Hardness and Eddy Current testing.
• Apply statistical sampling techniques and quality control methods.
• Complete product acceptance/rejection documentation and maintain organized quality records.

Engineering & Team Support

• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling, and Quality teams to resolve technical issues.
• Serve as a key member of the Engineering team by supporting inspection and process improvement activities.
• Teach and mentor team members on GD&T principles and best practices.
• Conduct internal GD&T training sessions as requested by management.
• Support production flow through the inspection department while maintaining quality standards.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CMM operating procedures, standards, and aerospace quality requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 2-5 years of hands-on CMM inspection experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing interpretation.
• Experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI).
• Proficiency with PC-DMIS software.
• Knowledge of quality assurance principles related to dimensional inspection.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to recognize deviations from specifications and requirements.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Required Testing

Candidates must successfully demonstrate proficiency through:

• Advanced Engineering Drawings Assessment
• Fluent-Level GD&T Assessment
• Basic CMM Assessment

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous aerospace manufacturing or aerospace inspection experience.
• Trade school certification or college coursework in:
• CMM Programming
• Blueprint Reading
• GD&T
• CAD experience with CATIA, AutoCAD, or similar software.
• CAD certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to navigate throughout a manufacturing facility.
• Comfortable working on concrete floors for extended periods.
