Environmental Project Manager

ERG’s services span groundwater and soil investigations, site remediation, environmental assessments, compliance auditing, hazardous materials assessment, and specialized work such as PFAS investigation and remediation design. The organization also offers broader technical capabilities including stormwater management, geotechnical investigations, GIS and CADD services, and additional services tailored to client needs.

Role Description The Environmental Project Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Lansing, MI. This position is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering environmental assessment, remediation, and compliance projects on time and within budget. Day-to-day activities include coordinating field investigations, overseeing sampling and data collection, reviewing technical reports, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. The role involves collaborating with clients to define project objectives, prepare proposals and scopes of work, and communicate progress and findings in a clear, professional manner. The Environmental Project Manager will also mentor project staff, interface with regulatory agencies, support risk management and mitigation strategies, and contribute to continuous improvement of ERG’s project delivery practices.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in environmental consulting and project management, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong knowledge of environmental compliance and environmental policy, including relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
• Proficiency in environmental assessment, including data analysis, interpretation of results, and preparation of technical reports.
• Experience with site investigations and remediation (e.g., groundwater and soil, PFAS, Brownfield sites), and familiarity with environmental assessment processes (Phase I and II, baseline assessments).
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
• Ability to work on-site in field conditions, including overseeing contractors and field staff, and adhering to health and safety protocols.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client communication, proposal writing, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with common office and technical tools; experience with GIS, or data management software is a plus.
• Relevant professional certifications or licensure (e.g., PE, PG, CHMM) are beneficial but not required.
